Label IQ Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22 2025

Label IQ (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides a mobile application that helps users decode packaged food labels, personalize dietary preferences and discover healthier alternatives. Your privacy is important to us. This policy describes the information we collect, how we use it, your rights and choices, and how we comply with data protection laws and Apple’s App Store requirements.

1. Information We Collect and Why

We collect only the data necessary to provide and improve our services, as required by Apple’s data minimization guidelines. We disclose the following information to comply with App Store privacy requirements.

1.1 Account and Profile Data

  • Email address or sign‑in credentials – When you register, you provide an email address (or login via an authentication service). We use this to create your account, save your preferences, send important notifications and respond to support requests.
  • Dietary preferences and allergies – You may voluntarily provide information about foods you avoid (e.g., gluten, nuts) and nutritional goals. We use this to personalize alerts and recommendations.

1.2 Scans and Product Data

  • Barcode scans and product images – When you use the app to scan a product’s barcode or photograph an ingredient list, we process the image or code to identify the product. This information is used to retrieve product details, ingredient lists and produce personalized scores and suggestions. Scan data is linked to your account so you can view your history.

1.3 Usage and Device Information

  • App usage statistics – We collect anonymous analytics (e.g., session duration, features used) to understand how our app is used and improve performance. This data is aggregated and not linked to your identity.
  • Device and operating system – We collect device type, operating system version and unique device identifiers (such as the Apple Identifier for Vendors) to ensure compatibility, troubleshoot errors and comply with Apple’s policies.

1.4 Location and Precise Data

We do not request or collect precise location data. The app may use general location (e.g., country or region) inferred from your device settings to comply with regional laws or adjust language and product databases.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data to:

  • Operate, maintain and improve Label IQ and its features.
  • Provide personalized ingredient breakdowns, alerts and product ratings based on your stated preferences.
  • Respond to comments and inquiries and provide user support.
  • Send important service notifications (e.g., changes to this policy) and optional marketing communications. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
  • Perform analytics and research to enhance the app, following Apple’s rules on data usage.

We will not sell your personal data or use it for tracking across other companies’ apps or websites. We will only use the information for the purposes described above or as otherwise disclosed to you.

3. Sharing and Disclosure

We share your information only with trusted service providers and partners who help us operate the app (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics, customer support). Before sharing any data, we confirm that these partners comply with Apple’s privacy standards. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

We may also share information if required by law or to protect our rights, property or safety, or that of others.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy and to comply with legal obligations. You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time via the in‑app settings or by contacting us. Upon receiving a verified request, we will delete your data from our servers except where retention is required by law.

5. Your Rights and Choices

  • Manage preferences – You can update your dietary preferences, allergies and other profile information at any time within the app.
  • Opt out of marketing – You can opt out of marketing communications by following the unsubscribe instructions in emails or adjusting your notification settings.
  • Access, correction and deletion – You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate information and to request deletion. We will respond to all valid requests consistent with applicable laws.
  • Revoke consent – If you previously gave consent for optional data collection (e.g., analytics), you can withdraw it at any time via the app settings or by contacting us.

6. Children’s Privacy

Label IQ is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal data, we will take steps to delete the information. Parents or guardians who believe we might have collected information from a child should contact us immediately.

7. Data Security

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure or alteration. While no system is completely secure, we continuously work to improve our security measures.

8. International Transfers

Label IQ is based in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions. We rely on lawful mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) when transferring data internationally.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we do, we will notify you via the app or by other appropriate means. Your continued use of Label IQ after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
